MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS INTERN (JAN 2025 - JUNE 2025)

D.C. Youth Orchestra

Program

Overview

I worked with DCYOP, a nonprofit that provides music education to young people in Washington, D.C. My main focus was to improve their brand and grow their social media channels.

My Role

  • Created and managed content for Instagram and Facebook

  • Designed flyers and other deliverables, ensuring timely delivery

  • Edited videos using Final Cut Pro to support storytelling

  • Worked with the development team on fundraising campaigns

  • Collaborated with the marketing consultant, Boss Lady Consulting

  • Helped plan and execute the Spring Appeal campaign

Challenges

At first, communication was difficult because many people were involved and there was a lot of content to manage. We improved this by using better tools and clearer processes.

Results

  • Raised social media engagement by 15%

  • Found four key growth opportunities by analyzing competitors

  • Supported a successful Spring Appeal campaign

  • Made donor messaging clearer with visual content

Tools

Canva · Final Cut Pro · ClickUp · Microsoft Teams · Meta Business Suite

Reflection

This internship showed me how important clear communication and strong visuals are for nonprofit marketing. The work wasn’t just about sharing information. It was about connecting people to a cause.
